Tungsten oxydichloride, an important compound in the tungsten metallurgy process, is produced by the reaction of metal tungsten, tungsten trioxide and tungsten hexachloride at 450°C or by the reaction of tungsten oxytetrachloride and tin dichloride. Its formula is WOCl2.
Physical properties of WOCl2:
1. Golden brown needle crystal, monoclinic structure.
2. Density is 5.92g/cm3.
Chemical properties of WOCl2:
1. It is stable in the air.
2. It is easily decomposed by nitric acid (HNO3).
3. Under vacuum, at the temperature of 400°C, it decomposes, and generates tungsten dichloride (WCl2).
