Tungsten oxide, a kind of yellow orthorhombic crystal, is insoluble in water and acid (except HF), but, slowly dissolves in concentrated alkali solution.
Tungsten oxide, a kind of tungstic anhydride, is obtained as an intermediate in the recovery of tungsten from its minerals. It is mainly applied in manufacturing tungsten, tungstates, tungsten alloys.
There are four types of tungsten oxide:
1. Yellow tungsten oxide, short for YTO, formula is WO3;
2. Blue tungsten oxide, short for BTO, formula is WO2.9 or W28O58;
3. Violet tungsten oxide, short for VTO, formula is WO2.72 or W18O49;
4. Brown tungsten oxide, also known as tungsten dioxide, formula is WO2.
Tungsten oxide applications:
1.For the production of tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder, and then produce tungsten products and tungsten alloy products.
2. For the detection of NO2, NH3 and other toxic gases, such as tungsten oxide gas sensor and nano-tungsten oxide gas sensor.
3. For the production of catalyst (used in petroleum industry), paint (ceramic pigment), coatings and other chemical products.
