Toyota Solid-state Battery Will Be Released within the Year

Recently, Toyota Motor will launch a "disruptive" solid-state battery this year, which can provide 500 kilometers of battery life, can be charged from empty to full within 10 minutes, and has minimal safety hazards, so it is expected to become a water-based battery. A viable alternative to lithium-ion batteries with electrolyte solutions.

At present, the power batteries carried by pure electric vehicles are mainly ternary lithium batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries, but these two traditional lithium-ion batteries also have their own technical shortcomings. Many consumers are concerned about potential fire hazards and reduced battery life. Buying pure electric vehicles is prohibitive.

Because solid-state batteries can reduce the risk of battery fire, increase battery energy density, and provide a better endurance experience in a single charge travel distance and a relatively short charging time, it is considered to be able to solve the disadvantages of lithium ion battery technology.

It is reported that the prototype car equipped with Toyota solid-state batteries will not be launched until 2022, and according to the company's plan, its mass production time will be around 2025.

Public data shows that Toyota currently has more than 1,000 patents related to solid-state energy storage batteries. Under the same conditions, Toyota's solid-state battery electric vehicles will have a range of more than twice that of cars running on traditional lithium-ion batteries. In addition, in terms of interior space, the experience brought by solid-state battery electric vehicles will also be better than lithium-ion battery vehicles.

It is worth noting that in the current domestic market, NIO has also announced that it will mass-produce semi-solid batteries, and the vehicle life will exceed 1,000 kilometers. However, at present, the battery is also a futures product, and it will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022 at the earliest. CATL may be a supplier of solid-state batteries for NIO.
