The Molybdenum isotope Mo-95
Author:Marketwi…    Source:Marketwire    Update Time:2009-11-23 18:51:23

The Molybdenum isotope Mo-95

The Molybdenum isotope Mo-95 is used for the production of the medical radioisotope Ru-97. Mo-96 is used for the production of the radioisotopes Tc-96 and Tc-95m, both of which have a medical application. Most Mo isotopes are also used in nutrition studies in humans. Depleted Mo-95 has been suggested for use in UMo fuel elements for materials test (high flux) reactors. Molybdenum isotopes can be obtained from Trace Sciences International.

Naturally occurring isotopes
This table shows information about naturally occuring isotopes, their atomic masses, their natural abundances, their nuclear spins, and their magnetic moments. Further data for radioisotopes (radioactive isotopes) of molybdenum are listed (including any which occur naturally) below.  Isotope Atomic mass (ma/u) Natural abundance (atom %) Nuclear spin (I) Magnetic moment (μ/μN)
92Mo 91.906809 (4) 14.84 (35) 0
94Mo 93.9050853 (26) 9.25 (12) 0
95Mo 94.9058411 (22) 15.92 (13) 5/2 -0.9142
96Mo 95.9046785 (22) 16.68 (2) 0
97Mo 96.9060205 (22) 9.55 (8) 5/2 -0.9335
98Mo 97.9054073 (22) 24.13 (31) 0
100Mo 99.907477 (6) 9.63 (23) 0

In the above picture, the most intense ion is set to 100% since this corresponds best to the output from a mass spectrometer. This is not to be confused with the relative percentage isotope abundances which total 100% for all the naturally occurring isotopes.

Radiosotope data
Further data for naturally occuring isotopes of molybdenum are listed above. This table gives information about some radiosotopes of molybdenum, their masses, their half-lives, their modes of decay, their nuclear spins, and their nuclear magnetic moments. Isotope Mass Half-life Mode of decay Nuclear spin Nuclear magnetic moment
90Mo 89.91394 5.7 h EC to 90Nb 0
91Mo 90.91175 15.5 m EC to 91Nb 9/2
93Mo 92.906811 3500 y EC to 93Nb 5/2
99Mo 98.907711 2.7476 d β- to 97Tc 1/2 0.375

Sheffield ChemPuter isotope pattern calculator
You can use WebElements to calculate an isotope pattern for an arbitrary chemical formula:

Edit this formula :

 Isotopic abundances of Mo

Note the following when entering your formula:

Correctly nested brackets [{()}] are OK
'Pseudoelements' such as Me, Ph, Cp, and many others are OK
Compound names and element names such as 'water' or 'manganese' are not OK
Experiment with your formula to see what is possible
